SOAP Journal 03-18-2008 (Psalm 62:7)
Scripture:
Psalm 62:7 God delivers me and exalts me; God is my strong protector and my shelter.
Observation:
It's terse, but this brief promise is a total one, covering all situations and trials, all circumstances and threats. So sin, which threatens to undo us, is escaped just as the satanic opposition that would threaten our physical lives and the advance of God's kingdom. This is defensive, though, for there is no conquest. The onslaught is acknowledged in the posture of the protected and sheltered.
Application:
It's ok to be defended, weak and in need of deliverance. This is part of where we're weak and He's strong. The trick is to let Him defend rather than defend myself, let him exalt me and not exalt myself. In this world that tries to look, sound and smell so good, it's a challenge to let God speak for us. He MUST uphold us, not us upholding ourselves.
Prayer:
Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit, as one who dies to self-defense and self-reliance. Your hand is more than enough to deliver me. Thank You for Your great mercy and kindness, Your patience and faithfulness even when I'm a pretentious clown. I give You glory.
