SOAP Journal 02-29-2008 (Psalm 27:9-10)
Scripture:
Psalm 27:9-10 Do not reject me! Do not push your servant away in anger! You are my deliverer! Do not forsake or abandon me, O God who vindicates me! Even if my father and mother abandoned me, the Lord would take me in.
Observation:
How great is the acceptance of the Lord. How much more faithful is he to his servants than even the familial ties of child to parent. The "anger" word is key in understanding the human dynamic - angry parents can even disown their children - but not God. (From Netbible) - "take me in" is "gather" or "receive" - the Lord is pulling us to himself, gathering us in as it were.
Application:
Fear of rejection is primal to me; whether born from the experience of *being* rejected or the threat of sinning my way out of favor, acceptance or even fellowship. The Psalmist (David) is not claiming sinlessness (as he sometimes does) but appeals to God's mercy - which I need to own not just every morning but every moment. And rejection by men will certainly come - Jesus was rejected by His own - but never by the God who will always take me to Himself. This is a transaction I need to exercise regularly.
Prayer:
Father, You are my Father, my true Father Who always takes me in. Fuse that to my soul, O God, make it part of my breathing and living. Let me walk in that so I might give it away as well.
In Jesus' name, amen.
