SOAP Journal 03-14-2008 (Psalm 55:2-3)
Scripture:
Psalm 55:2-3 Pay attention to me and answer me! I am so upset and distressed, I am beside myself, because of what the enemy says, and because of how the wicked pressure me, for they hurl trouble down upon me and angrily attack me.
Observation:
David barks out a near-accusation to the Lord. God is NOT listening! Otherwise how could he be in such calamity? First it's the words of the enemy, then the "pressure" last the "trouble" that plague David's heart. His soul under scrutiny and accusation looks to God for a better, more encouraging word, deliverance from the pressure and trouble forged against him.
Application:
The words are very real as is the pressure and the trouble. In my case, the motive I assign to pressure itself needs scrutiny; people are sometimes just trying to advocate for a customer or a business component. In a way I should feel honored that I preside over resources so valued. But .. the true enemy twists all those things into personal attacks and deeper accusations of not caring to the point that I can never do enough, never get the balance right or do the "right thing" (and that thing itself changes as I do the last one). Deliverance from THAT is what I need.
Prayer:
Father, make me cognizant of how the enemy twists words and motives in my mind and heart. Deliver me from pressure that's not even there, grant me patience with the impatient and angry. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
