SOAP Journal 04-21-2008 (Psalm 119:41-42)

Scripture:

Psalm 119:41-42 May I experience your loyal love, O Lord, and your deliverance, as you promised. Then I will have a reply for the one who insults me, for I trust in your word.

Observation:

The rebuke for the ones who insult the psalmist comes from a basis of prior experience - of God's lovingkindness and deliverance. His experience in knowing he is loved produces a trust in God's word that overcomes any insult, any affront. For in that word is abundant life here and eternal life thereafter. What can anyone do or say to shake that foundation, once laid.

Application:

Where I have ceased to remember or walk in God's love and deliverance, I need to get back to it. Where I have ceased to believe His word concerning me I need to re-establish that faith and walk in it in again. And I need to get in the habit of learning and quoting God's word toward those who would attack, chip away and otherwise erode my standing and my faith. THAT is something I can do.

Prayer:

Father, restore to me the joy of my salvation. Tear down the ties and alliances I have unknowingly (or even knowingly) established, that I might trust in You again. Grant to me deliverance, for I believe that You do love me with an everlasting love. In Jesus' name, amen.
